北韓領導人金正恩與南韓總統文在寅的世紀會談，吸引了全世界關注，連一向資訊封閉的北韓人民也開始議論紛紛，對於統一的希望也漸漸高漲。
據《每日北韓》報導，大部分北韓人民都知道文金會的消息，且熱烈討論最近的局勢，他們會在地鐵站的讀報欄尋找有關南北關係的文章，得知兩韓關係漸漸走向光明的消息後，都感到「歡欣鼓舞」。
年輕人們提到，最近聚在一起就是在談論統一問題，如果南北統一的話，就不會受到嚴控拘束，想要「看一個月的南韓電影」。老一輩的人則認為，統一能帶來經濟富裕，利用南方的技術和北方的礦產資源發展經濟，再加上北韓的國防力量，「統一後的朝鮮半島就會成為強國」。
北韓咸鏡北道消息人士指出，「在南北間自由旅行是大多數人的希望」，統一之後就不用越境跑到南韓，犯罪率也會大幅下降。
北韓官員則說，南北韓隔閡很多，就算馬上實現統一也很難整頓國家機構，需要一段適應期。
北韓人民推測，兩韓有可能採用北韓國父金日成提出的「高麗民主聯邦共和國」進行統一，在雙方互相承認不同的思想與制度下，建立一個由兩個政府共同治理的統一國家。
